NABINDIBO

The group was born in Brussels in 1991.
Initially formed by Bernadette Aningi (mother of Zap Mama). Nabindibo specializes in polyphonic singing from Haut-Uélé (DRC).
In Kibudu Nabindibo means "going forward" it is also the authentic name of Bernadette Aningi. Her father was a customary chief (griot) of the Babudu tribe and taught her the subtlety of polyphonic singing, and transmitted to her the richness and magic of oral traditions.
Today, thanks to this Nabindibo vocal group, the polyphonic tradition  of the Congo continues.
They sing songs from daily life in the Haut Uélé (rainforest).
Bernadette with her daughter Anita, embarked on the composition of polyphony in Swahili, Lingala, and Azande. Along with the syncopated rhythm, they use fascinating vocal techniques such as yodelling, ostinato or hiccups.  Nabindibo sings in a very moving, skillful way.
With their convincing voices, they sing the different events of life, birth, marriage, death, picking, joy, but also life advice, beliefs and jokes.
